I hate drug commercials

I understand networks have to sell time to make money, and it's probably safe to assume that no one has more advertising money available than "big pharm". Someone just tell me why they have to state all the possible side effects of a prescription drug when you can't get the damn stuff without seeing a doctor. Shouldn't your doctor be the one responsible to explain side effects of a drug he or she is going to prescribe? So why the hell does some soft voiced commentator have to share every possible side effect to every prescription drug being advertised? I just hit "mute" every time one comes on....I don't care what it is.
